do rías baixas

The history of the DO “Rías Baixas” begins in 1980 with the recognition of the Albariño designation; four years later, the first regulation of the current Regulatory Council Rías Baixas is approved.

Rías Baixas is one of the most dynamic designations of origin, and with wider international growth due to the fact that the Albariño variety, indigenous to this area, enjoys suitable conditions of climate and soil. The Rías Baixas microclimate is characterized by hot and soft temperatures at the same time, turning the grape ripening into a slow process (it takes approximately 175 days from budding at the beginning of March every spring, to harvest, the second half of September).

Bodegas Carballal is located in a historical sub-zone of O Salnés, home of the origin of the Albariño variety and the most important Denominación de Origen; the River Umia flows throughout this valley, sheltered on both banks by the hillsides of mounts Castrove, Lobeira and Xiabre.
